EVERYDAY SCHOOL ROUTINES

Help your child arrive on time for school!
It is = important for students to arrive at school on time.� Supervision begins at 8:30 a.m.� Students are expected to remain outside until the bell rings at entry time and should be dressed appropriately for weather conditions.� Students may be admitted early in case = of extreme cold or rain.� Entry bells = ring at 8:40 a.m. and 12:46 p.m. (Grades 1-6)

Studen= ts are expected to be in their classroom by 8:45 in time for morning announcements= and the singing of "O Canada."� Students who arrive after 8:45 must enter through the front door and check in at the office prior to going to class so accurate attendance can be maintained.� Students will be ma= rked late if they arrive at school after opening exercises have begun at 8:45. <= o:p>

We nee= d your assistance in getting your child to school and into their classroom on time.� Being late causes a disrupti= on for both the child and the class, and in many cases causes the late child considerable anxiety.

Regular and punctual attendance are trademarks of a responsible and successful student.

Regular and punctual attendance are important life skills.� This is the responsibility of both the student and the parents or guardian.� Frequent and lengthy absences or lateness can have negative effects = on academic progress at all grade levels.�

Attendance is taken at the beginning of classes in the morning and afternoon. <= /p>

If a student arrives after classes have begun, he or she must report to= the office with the reason for the late arrival before being admitted to class.� In the event of an appointm= ent, the absence will be recorded as such. Parents will receive a letter if the student is late or absent on a regular basis.

If it is necessary for a student to be dismissed from school before the regular time, a note must be brought to the teacher.� Parents who wish to pick up their child before regular dismissal tim= es are asked to report to the office and the student will be called down.

School Safe Arrival program helps monitor attend= ance�� <= /span>/2

If your son or daughter will be absent from sc= hool, parents are asked to contact the school at 905-276-4434 prior to the beginn= ing of the school day to let us know.� = An answering machine and tape recorder will accept messages between 4:00 p.m. = and 8:30 a.m.� It is important that all= absences be reported. If a lengthy absence is anticipated, please also indicate this. Parents will be contacted if a student is away and no report has been received.� Monitors will attempt to= reach you at home, work or the emergency number to check on your child's absence.= � After an illness, children should retur= n to school when they are ready to fully participate in all school activities including recess.� Unfortunately, w= e are not able to provide indoor recess supervision for children.

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Studen= ts walking to school in the morning or returning after lunch are asked to enter the playground from the south side of the school by way of the Kindergarten yar= d.� For safety, NO STUDENT is to walk throu= gh the parking lot.

When s= tudents are dismissed at the end of the day, they are to leave the school from their regular exit door.� If parents, babysitters or older siblings are meeting a child, please wait for them outsid= e this door.� This promotes student independence and responsibility and reduces crowding in the halls and coat areas.� Bus students line up in the= gym and are checked in by our bus monitors before they exit from the front doors.� To avoid congestion, no oth= er students are allowed to exit by the front school door.� We appreciate your help in reinforcing = this message with your children.

Lunch Routines

During= the lunch hour, we encourage all of our students to go home if it is possible.� Students who remain at school will be supervised by paid attendants.� When eating lunch, students are expected to leave their lunch room in a tidy condition and to respectfully follow direction from the supervisor.� After eating, students exit for outside= play or participate in extra-curricular activities offered by the staff.�

All st= udents are expected to dress appropriately for the weather to participate in outdoor activity at recess and lunch hour and, if staying at school for lunch, are expected to remain on school property for the entire lunch period.

Milk and Juice Sales

Milk a= nd juice will continue to be sold by the Grade 6 student team under Mrs. Robinson�s direction.� The prices for 2009 - 1= 0 are 75 cents for milk.

Students can participate in monthly Pizza Days=

Childr= en have the opportunity to participate in Pizza days by each term which are run by = our School Council.� Pizza lunches are announced to parents and children through a school notice and are marked on= our monthly calendar.� Deadlines for or= der returns are firm.

What to do with your child's forgotten lunch<= /h6>
If you= r child forgets his or her lunch, please write their first and last name on the lun= ch bag and bring it to the office.� We= will make sure that your child receives it.� Parents are asked not to interrupt classes to deliver items.<= /p>
Field Trips��= �� /3

Field trips, which staff plan, organize and supervise, are designed to fit closely with the curriculum and expectations outlined in the Ontario Curriculum.� Field trips are not, therefore, optional, unless clearly indicated in the permission letter.� It is a sch= ool expectation that all students will participate in these excursions, as there are follow-up instructional activities that generate assessments for the re= port cards.� Parents who choose to keep = their child home on a trip day deprive them of a wonderful learning opportunity t= hat cannot be replicated in the classroom.

Has your address or phone number changed?

Up-to-date information records are critical sh= ould the need arise to contact parents.� Please inform the school immediately of any changes in address, phone numbers, emergency contacts or custody issues.� Unlisted telephone numbers will be kept in confidence.� Student verification forms will be sent= home early in the fall for parents to check the information and return to school with any changes.

Students have access to computers at school
The co= mputer is an important learning tool for your child.� At Cashmere, computers are integr= ated into classroom program to support student learning across the curriculum and foster the development of necessary technology skills.� Computers are accessible in classrooms,= as a cluster in the school library and in the Computer Lab.

To ens= ure student safety, the Peel Board and Cashmere School have firm po= licies regarding access and acceptable use of technology.� Each student receives a copy of the acceptable use policy and parents and students are required to sign to veri= fy their understanding of expectations of conduct in using this learning equip= ment.� Failure to meet these expectations will result in a loss of privileges and a range of other possible consequences.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� For more information on Internet Safety, visit the Peel Board's web site at ww= w.peeledu.on.ca and go to the "Parents Boost Learning" section for a copy of our = Parent Tip Sheet on keeping childr= en safe on the Internet.

Borrowing Library Materials

Studen= ts are encouraged to borrow library materials on a regular basis.� Should books be lost or damaged, studen= ts are expected to pay the assigned replacement cost before borrowing new material= s.

The sc= hool library resource centre is an important support for instructional program.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� Apart from having access to a large num= ber of books and audio-visual materials, students are directly taught the basic sk= ills of locating materials and organizing information in a coherent manner.

Lost and Found

It is = strongly suggested that all student possessions be labelled to avoid loss.� Our lost and found box outside the cust= odial office is often overflowing.� Please remind your child to check for their belongings. At the end of each term, unclaimed items will be bundled up and donated to a charitable organization= .� Valuable articles such as money or jewe= lry are turned in and may be claimed at the office.�

Please= be aware that the Peel Board does not carry insurance covering personal items lost on school property.� Therefore, please= make sure that your child does not bring cell phones, expensive jewelry, cameras, radios, electronic games/toys or other valuable items such as special collections to school.� Unfortunate= ly, if lost or stolen, we cannot replace them.

In ord= er to promote a student's responsibility, it is expected that a student replace or cover the cost of replacing any materials that the student has damaged or lost.� These materials include text= books and library books.

Use of School Phone

The school telephone is not intended for stude= nt use and will only be allowed in special cases such as an emergency.� In all cases, permission must be grante= d for its use by office personnel.� Stude= nts must make arrangements with their parents before coming to school to go to a friend's home or get permission to stay after school for extra curricular events.� Students will not be allow= ed to call home under those circumstances and the usual arrangements for their dismissal to home will apply.�

Remedial Assistance After School

At cer= tain times, it is beneficial for students to remain after school to receive addi= tional assistance from their teacher or to finish incomplete work.� Students will be dismissed no later tha= n 3:45 p.m. in this event.� Parents not wi= shing their child to remain after school for extra help are asked to indicate thi= s to their child's teacher in writing.

Appropriate Clothing

Outside activity is part of the school program= and we ask you to ensure that your child is dressed appropriately, including ha= ts, mitts, boots and snowpants in winter and hats, sunblock and appropriate lig= hter clothing in warm or hot weather.� I= f a child is well enough to be at school, he/she is expected to participate ful= ly in both indoor and outdoor activities.� In snowy weather, students also need to have a pair of shoes at scho= ol to wear indoors.� It is very helpfu= l to label all of your child's belongings.� Health Canada= suggests for safety reasons parents remove drawstrings from hoods, hats and jackets to reduce strangulation hazards in the event that strings get caugh= t on playground equipment or fences.� Yo= -yo balls are also NOT PERMITTED for safety reasons.

All st= udents from Kindergarten to Grade 6 are involved in a Daily Physical Education Program.� Physical education is an integral part of the curriculum and necessary for a child's healthy development.� Therefore, students a= re expected to participate actively in each class and be dressed appropriately.� For health and safe= ty reasons, students must wear proper gym clothes: shorts, T-shirts, running s= hoes and socks.� PLEASE LABEL ALL GYM CLOTHES.� Students are requested to= wear running shoes with non-marking soles.

Extra-Curricular Activities

During= the school year, students from Grades 1 to 6 may sign up to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities.� These are offered and supervised by Cashmere staff and will occur, f= or the most part, during the lunch hour or on a limited basis, after school for Grades 5 and 6 only.� Clubs and activities are announced in the monthly newsletter and students are reminde= d of the schedule during daily announcements.�

HOW WE KEEP CHILDREN HEALTHY AT SCHOOL

Concerned about your child's health?
Your c= hild's health and safety are our primary concern.� If your child has a special health problem, please advise your child= 's teacher and the office.

Illness and School Attendance

If a c= hild is well enough to attend school, she/he is well enough to go outside for recess times.� The fresh air, physical act= ivity and change of venue is beneficial to all of our students.� Please do not send your child to school= if they are too ill to participate in all aspects of the program, including outdoor activity.� Special consider= ation may be given in certain circumstances (e.g. students on crutches).� Please contact the office in writing if special circumstances apply.

Regular attendance is vital to ensure student learning and develop responsibility; however, we realize that students sometimes get sick and need to stay at ho= me. In these circumstances, we encourage parents to keep their child at home to enable the child to recover fully and avoid spreading disease.�

What happens if your child is ill or gets injured at school?

When a= student is injured or feels ill, s/he is asked to report it immediately to the teac= her, lunchroom supervisor, or office personnel.� The injury or illness will be attended to by school personnel.� Parents/guardians will be contacted as = soon as possible if it is considered serious, or may require medical attention.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� In case of any head injury, parents wil= l be automatically contacted or, if not available, an emergency contact.� You can assist your children and the school by ensuring that all telephone numb= ers on file are up-to-date.� If we = are unable to contact a parent or an emergency contact, school staff will take whatever action we feel is necessary to care for your child.

What to do if your child needs to take medication at school

It is the policy of the Peel District School B= oard that its staff should not be involved in the administration of medication.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� Rather, it is the responsibility of par= ents to make arrangements that will eliminate the need for school staff being involved.� If, however, in the opin= ion of a practising physician, your child requires medication which cannot be administered outside the school day, a special application form(as per Peel District Operating procedures) MUS= T be completed by your doctor and returned to school before medication can be given at school.� (This includes in= halers needed for the treatment of asthma.)� The application must be updated each y= ear by your physician.

All me= dications will be securely stored during the day at the office and should be delivere= d to the office and picked up at the end of the day by a parent if needed overnight.� If your child has a spe= cific medical condition that school personnel need to be aware of for safety, ple= ase inform the teacher and principal in writing.

Preventing the spread of head lice

From t= ime to time, there may be cases of pediculosis or head lice in the school.� This should not be a cause for alarm.� They are a nuisance but they are not hazardous to your child's health, as they do not carry disease.�

Peel H= ealth is available to provide advice to parents about treatment and prevention.� They can be reached by calling Health L= ine Peel at 905 799-7700.

Please= let us know if you discover your child has head lice so we can prevent it from spreading at school.� If a child is identified with head lice while at school, parents will be contacted and the student will be excluded from class until the appropriate shampoo treatment= has been given.� A letter will be sent = home to parents to provide more information on how� to prevent the spread of lice.

What you should know about immunization

All children up to 18 years must be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, red and German (rubella) measles, and mumps.� Immunization is not provided through the school.� Peel Health mu= st receive proof that students have either met the minimum immunization requirements of the law or have filed an exemption form.� If no proof is provided, the Medical Of= ficer of Health is authorized to order the child's suspension from school until p= roof is received.� For more information = on immunization, visit the Peel Board's web site at www.peel.edu.on.ca and go to the "Parents Boost Learning" section for a copy of our Parent Fact Sheet on immunization.=

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AT SCHOOL

Playground Supervision

Staff = are on duty on the playground 10 minutes before school begins and meet students arriving on the bus.� Staff also supervise outdoor play during recesses and lunch hour and monitor the after school loading of buses.� Students = should not arrive prior to 8:30 a.m. = as they will not be supervised by school staff.� Students are encouraged to proceed home directly after dismissal.

Parent= s and care givers of Kindergarten students are asked to wait with them until a staff member is on duty to receive their child before leaving the child unattended.� This is especially imp= ortant in the afternoon since the Kindergarten class enters 15 minutes after the r= est of the school begins.

Kiss and Ride � Morning Drop-Off

We hav= e a clear drop-off zone for students who are driven by parents in the morning.� The drop-off zone is at the stop sign i= n the middle lane of our circular driveway.� Parents need to drive up to the stop = sign, drop their child, and proceed immediately through the circular driveway in = the middle lane.�� Do not leave vehicles unattended at the front of the school.� Parked vehicles may receive a ticket. ��PLEASE NOTE THE STOP SIGN AT THE MERGE = OF THE CIRCULAR DRIVE AND THE PARKING LOT ENTRANCE.

Bus Safety��= ��= �� /7

If you are picking up your child at 3:15 p.m.,= please wait in your vehicle on the street or park in the parking lot and wa= lk to the child�s dismissal door to meet them.�� For safety reasons and bus access, the circular driveway is restricted to buses only after school and no other tra= ffic is allowed to pass standing buses while they are loading.� To break this rule is to risk hitting a= child or receiving a substantial fine from Mississauga Traffic Safety Council or police.� Students meeting parents p= arked on the street are asked to walk out to the sidewalk at the south end of the school and not to cut across the circular driveway between the buses.� Thank you for helping us to reinforce t= hese expectations with your child.

Parking Lot Safety

Please= help us to reinforce the message with your children that students are NOT to walk through the parking lot to get to the back of the school.� Please use the playground entrance on t= he south side of the school or the sidewalk access beside the parking lot.

Inclem= ent weather can result in a dramatic increase in the number of vehicles around = the school and reduced visibility may cause increased danger for our students.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� To avoid these hazards, parents are urged to comply with the followin= g:

<= span lang=3DEN-CA style=3D'font-family:Symbol;mso-fareast-font-family:Symbol;mso= -bidi-font-family: Symbol'>� Please remind your child = of the importance of using sidewalks wherever possible, crossing at crosswalks, and stopping and looking before entering a roadway.

Traffic Safety Alert

The Mi= ssissauga Traffic Safety Council has identified a number of problems that can occur around schools.

�� Disobeying Crossing Guards

�� Ignoring no parking and no stopping signs

�� Double parking

�� Making "U" turns

�� Backing up to turn around

�� Blocking driveways

�� Passing school buses while lig= hts are flashing

If you= must drive your child to or from school, consider parking a block away or using a car pool.� Obey all traffic rules, = and most of all, be alert.� Children mo= ve very quickly and do not see traffic as adults do.�

Bicycles, Skateboards, In-line Skates and Scoo= ters

In goo= d weather, a number of our students ride their bicycles to school.� An area with bike racks will be designated.� Students must have a g= ood quality lock to help ensure that theft does not occur.� The school does not assume responsibili= ty for damage or loss to bicycles left on school property.� For safety, all students must walk their bicycles on and off school property.� In addition, every student who rides his/her bike to school MUST have a bike helmet.� This is the law.� Studen= ts riding their bike are expected to enter and exit from their regular classro= om dismissal door.

We req= uest parents� support in reinforcing the NO SKATEBOARDS, ROLLER BLADES or SCOO= TERS rule on school property during the school day.� This is for all students� safety and we appreciate your help in shar= ing this message with your child.

Permission Forms and Internet Safety

Each y= ear, parents are asked to sign permission forms which allow their child to participate in different learning activities such as walking trips and participation in the safe arrival program.�

In add= ition, we ask that parents and child read and sign the acceptable use of computers and Internet technology agreement and return to the school.� It is expected that the responsibility = of using technology appropriately is shared by the student, the school and the parent.� Your prompt return of these permission forms and signed agreement allows your child to make full use of these learning resources. Fire Drills, Lockdown Procedures and Evacuation

We pra= ctise emergency evacuations and lockdown procedures at regular intervals during t= he school year.� Procedures for the st= udents and staff are clearly laid out to help students and staff react in a safe, swift and orderly manner in the event of a real emergency.� Student safety is our most important consideration.�

Should= it be necessary to evacuate the school, all students and staff will be immediately moved to the school yard where the staff will check their attendance.� If necessary to move off site, students= will then go with their teacher and class group to our primary evacuation site, = Hawthorn P.S., our neighbour school at Paisley and Confederation or Floradale P.S. on Rosemary Dr. where they will be supervised until picked up = by a parent or guardian or their regular bus at dismissal time.� The principal will contact the Peel Dis= trict School Board who will coordinate information for parents through the media.=

Custody Issues

Please= notify the office immediately if there are changes or restrictions in custody or access.

Inclement Weather and school closing information

In the= event of a severe storm, it may be necessary to close the school.� This decision will be made by the Direc= tor of Education before school starts and communication will be made available to = most major radio stations by 7:00 a.m.

With w= eather challenges, sometimes bus runs may be delayed.� If this happens, students will not be marked late when they arrive.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� Parents are reminded in the event of ve= ry bad weather to listen to the radio for bus cancellations or school closings from 7:00 a.m. onward.� If buses do not run in the morning, they also will not run in the afternoon.= � A list of the radio stations wh= ich make these announcements follows:

= � This message means that schools remain open for students � but ALL transportation services provided by the Peel Board are cancelled for the day.

The scho= ols are closed.

� This message means that, = due to the severity of the weather conditions, schools and all other board worksit= es are closed to students and staff.

On sto= rmy days when the school remains open, parents must determine the appropriateness of sending their children to school.� = In very rare cases, it may be necessary to close the school during the day.� In this event, parents will be requeste= d to arrange pick-up of their child or give permission for him or her to walk home.� If a parent cannot be reache= d, children will remain at school until regular dismissal time.� The emergency contact information must = be in your child's file in case parents cannot be reached.

School visitor policy

All pa= rents are welcome in our school.� All visitors must sign in and wear a Visitor Tag. In the interes= ts of safety of children and continuity of program however, we ask all visitor= s to please check in at the office and leave lunches, etc. there.� We ask that parents not go to classrooms after classes have begun, it interrupts valuable learning time. Staff have = been asked to direct all visitors to the office if you do not have a Visitor Tag.� If you must speak to your chi= ld during the school day, our secretary will call your child to the office.

Picking up your child from school

Student's basic safety knowledge

Reporting to Parents

Student achievement is reported three times a = year (December, March and June.) using the standard provincial report card manda= ted by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training.� Your child's achievement measured again= st the provincial standard is reported as a letter grade: A, B, C or D.� The grades on the report card are based= on accumulated assessment data gathered throughout the year.� Parent/teacher interviews are scheduled= soon after this time and give parents an opportunity to discuss in greater depth= with teachers their child's progress in academics and learning skills.�

BULLYING PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION<= /p>

We are teaching students to identify bullying behaviour and giving them strategies to deal with, and stop it from happening.

Bullying is typically a form of rep= eated, persistent and aggressive behaviour directed at another person that is inte= nded to cause (or should be known to cause) fear, distress and/or harm to that person�s body, feelings, self-esteem or reputation. Bullying occurs in a context where there is a real or perceived power imbalance.

When someone experiences or observes bullying behaviour, he/she is expected to report it to a teacher, teaching assistant or school administrator immediately. Bullying behaviour will be d= ealt with using a progressive discipline approach.

PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE

Cashmere Ave. PS �encourages, supports a= nd recognizes acceptable behaviour in our students through a variety of positi= ve practices.� Progressive discipline = is an approach that makes use of a continuum of interventions, supports and consequences, building upon strategies which promote positive behaviours.

We encourage students to take responsibility for their behaviour and to accept the consequences of their actions. A progressive discipline approach will be used to deal with inappropriate behaviour. This may include: oral reminders, review of expectations, contact with parent(s)/guardian(s), written reflection, volun= teer services in the school

community, conflict mediation and resolution, peer mentoring, and/or referral for support services.

We recognize that each student is a= unique individual and that every situation that requires disciplinary action has i= ts own set of extenuating circumstances.� All factors that may have affected the student�s behaviour will be considered before progressive discipline is applied. Students who behave inappropriately will receive an age and developmentally appropriate consequence.� For a student with sp= ecial education or disability-related needs, all progressive discipline approaches will be consistent with his/her Individual Education Plan and his/her demonstrated abilities.

Suspensi= on and expulsion

Cashmere Ave. PS also supports the = use of suspension and expulsion for serious incidents as outlined in the Peel Dist= rict School Board's Safe Schools Policy.

Before considering whether to impos= e a suspension or make a recommendation for an expulsion, a principal must cons= ider mitigating and other factors.

The behaviours for which a principal may consider suspending a student include:

�&nb= sp; swearing (written or verb= al) at a teacher or at another person in a position of authority

�&nb= sp; bullying

�&nb= sp; uttering a threat to infl= ict serious bodily harm on another person

�&nb= sp; damaging or destroying sc= hool property

�&nb= sp; possessing alcohol or restricted drugs

�&nb= sp; being under the influence= of alcohol

�&nb= sp; committing any act consid= ered by the principal to:

o &nb= sp; have a negative impact on= the moral tone of the school

o &nb= sp; have a negative impact on= the physical or mental well-being of one or more school community members

o &nb= sp; be contrary to the school= or Peel board Codes of Conduct

Incidents for which a principal will consider recommending to the board's Discipline Committee that a student be expelled include:

�&nb= sp; physically assaulting ano= ther person causing bodily harm that requires medical treatment

�&nb= sp; possessing a weapon or using a weapon to threaten or frighten another person=

�&nb= sp; trafficking in restricted= drugs or weapons

�&nb= sp; giving alcohol to a minor=

�&nb= sp; committing robbery

�&nb= sp; committing sexual assault=

�&nb= sp; behaviour that:

o &nb= sp; is significantly detrimen= tal to the school climate and/or to the physical or mental well being of others

o &nb= sp; causes extensive damage to school property

o &nb= sp; causes his/her continued presence at the school to pose an unacceptable risk to other members of the school community

o &nb= sp; a pattern of behaviour so inappropriate the student's continued presence is detrimental to the effect= ive learning or working environment of others

o &nb= sp; demonstrates a persistent resistance to changes in behaviour that would enable him/her to be successf= ul

o &nb= sp; is a serious violation of= the school or Peel board Codes of Conduct

Students who are suspended or expel= led will be given an opportunity to continue their education through educational programs offered by the school board.

DRUGS

The s= chool recognizes the benefits of a smoke-free environment to all persons.� By law, smoking is not permitted at Cas= hmere Ave. PS, or any other board property, on school buses or while attending any school-related event or activity.� = School property includes cars that are on school grounds and all lands to the edge= of the street.� The no smoking rule wil= l be enforced within these areas.

Posse= ssion of tobacco products by students under the age of 16 and providing tobacco prod= ucts to anyone under 16 years of age is illegal.

Alcoh= ol and restricted drugs may be addictive and represent a health hazard. Possessing, using, trafficking in, or providing others with restricted drugs and/or alc= ohol will not be condoned at Cashmere Ave. PS, on Peel board property or at any school-related event or activity at any time.� Lighters and drug-related paraphernalia that can be used for substan= ce abuse are not permitted on school property.

WEAPONS

Posse= ssing or displaying weapons of any kind, including real, toy or replica, and all oth= er objects that could inflict or threaten bodily harm will not be condoned at Cashmere Ave. PS, on any Peel board property or at any school-related event= or activity at any time.

DRESS CODE

The standards for school dress at C= ashmere Ave. PS are based on common sense and are intended to support the comfort, safety and modesty of all students. There is a strong relationship between neat, clean and appropriate clothing and a positive learning environment.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY

Stude= nts will demonstrate appropriate online conduct and manners and refrain from improper/unethical use of technology, including computer hacking and cyber-bullying.� The Internet must = not be used for any purpose that violates the Cashmere Ave. PS Code of Conduct. Th= is applies to school, work and home internet use.

BUS TRAVEL

Students are expected to follow the standards of behaviour outlined in the Code of Conduct while they are on the school bus.

Keeping the lines open

Commun= ication between home and school is an important aspect of a student's success, to s= hare both concerns and accomplishments.� At any time throughout the school year, please contact your child's teacher if= you wish to discuss your child's progress or have questions about the program.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>� We ask, however, that you do not interr= upt instructional time or entry/dismissal to discuss your child's program.� Please make an appointment to allow the teacher to give you full attention and time to answer your questions.�

Getting the most out of school conferences

Scheduled student/parent/teacher interviews ar= e held in December and March.� Parents and students are invited to attend these conferences to discuss the student's performance.� Asking questions abou= t your child's progress is an excellent way for teachers to get to know you as a parent.� They also learn about your child's at-home interests and family responsibilities.� Teachers can also offer suggestions on = how you can become more involved in your child's education.

To provide consistent communication, we use the Wednesday mail format to send home any materials from school.� Barring any unusual circumstances, we w= ill send home all trip letters, special lunch orders or other information to yo= u on Wednesdays in your child's agenda pocket or a special Wednesday envelope. On the last Wednesday of the month, the newsletter and calendar will be sent h= ome. �It will keep you up-to-date on sch= ool events and information for the coming month.� To avoid duplication, information will be sent home with the youngest child of the family attending the school.� Please return the envelopes on Thursday or Friday at the latest so t= hey will be ready for the next Wednesday's news.�

Writing Notes

Anyone who has not previously submi= tted a Criminal Record Check who is considering volunteering must have completed= a Criminal Record Check. Volunteers in the school provide additional human resources for improving instruction and assisting in our larger community to understand and support the work of the school.� We value our volunteers who help us with many tasks in the school including All Star Reading coaching and

As our= school grows,� we are becoming an increasi= ngly diverse community of learners.� We = have many languages represented and, as an outreach initiative, we have parent volunteers in our represented languages who have offered to act as liaisons with other non-English speaking families and assist them with communications from school.� This list of voluntee= rs is included in the newsletter and we are also able to arrange for translators = to assist with school/parent conferences.
